RAIN?  WHAT'S THAT?

I didn't see it rain on the desert plain in Al Ain for six years.  Six years.  Living on the edge of the Empty Quarter on the Saudi Peninsula, that wasn't all that unusual.  Here, though, with the Amazon occupying the 2000 miles to the east, I expect some rain, even in the dry season.

In July we didn't have one day of measurable rain.  Not one.  Eight days it sprinkled, those coming in the first 13 days.  Since then, not a drop.  It's getting dry around here for sure.  Still green, just a drier version of it.  Fortunately, we have two irrigation canals crossing our property that have, mostly, contained water.

Then there's our dead-end asphalt (we aspired to gravel) road.  This time of year, our road would've been dusty, same for the inside of our home.  But this year, dust is not a problem, except I can no longer take photos like this just by stepping out our front gate after a vehicle passes.
